Dear Parent / Guardian,
I would like to welcome the new students to Computer Drawing Technology. My name is Mr. Rettew, and I am the instructor for this program. This will be my second year teaching at the RMCTC.
I began my career in drawing in the late 1980s, drawing and designing travel trailers. After 16 years, I changed direction for a few years before returning to the field in furniture and home construction design. I then attended the LCCTC in Brownstown in the AutoCAD area. I spent many years in the miscellaneous steel and construction fields before becoming a teacher.
I would like to get in touch with the parents or guardians this year to keep you informed about your child’s work in my class. I believe that parents or guardians can play an important role in their child’s education. If possible, I would like you to contact me in the coming weeks. Email works best for me. We will study a wide variety of drawing and design styles, from metal parts to houses. We will also learn to design and print prototypes and usable objects in 3D. This is an area of the design field that is growing rapidly.
At the beginning of the school year, I will send home many forms that need to be returned as soon as possible. Please take the time to read and sign all the forms and the school handbook, which outlines the school’s policies and procedures. The administration now requires each student to wear a specific shirt for class. One shirt will be provided for each student, purchased with funds from my class budget. You can purchase additional shirts through the school website if needed. Each student will be required to wear the shirt every day in our school. Failure to do so will result in a loss of points from the daily grade.
Over the next few years, your child will spend a great deal of time in this program. If they apply themselves, they will have the opportunity to learn about drawing and be able to get a job in the drafting field that provides a living wage and a bright future. The world will always need designers to provide plans for the manufacturing and construction industries. Please help me keep your child on the path to success.
